“Life was just a dream until I turned fifteen.” This one sentence sums up the life of this artist prior to giving his life to Jesus on May 7, 2006. Terrell “Broken” Horton was introduced to the Gospel at a young age but he lost interest in church after his parents divorced. The lack of a father figure in the home led to him searching for affirmation among his peers, and the result was a life of compromised values as he strived to fill the void. As Horton began to realize the destructive nature of the road he was traveling, he turned to a different source to cope with his struggles: hip-hop. He would stay up all hours of the night listening and reciting the lyrics to his favorite songs. This love for hip-hop gradually grew in to a passion for him to create his own music. It was during this season in his life that his mother rededicated her life to Jesus. Although he didn’t much care for church life, Horton changed the content of his lyrics to “Christian” as it was the only way his mother would allow him to write rhymes during service. One Sunday morning he walked through the doors of his church and experienced a heaviness unlike any he had ever felt before. For the first time he was drawn to the youth discipleship class that took place before service. He sat in the back row and was mesmerized by people his age speaking in tongues and crying out to God. On that same day Horton was led to the Lord at age fifteen by a member of the youth group. As Horton’s heart began to change, his approach to music began to change simultaneously. He now shares his own struggles in hopes of comforting and encouraging others that are struggling to show them they are not alone in this world.
